Longquan royal kilns were set up at Dayao and Xikou of Longquan after the Song dynasty imperial court moved its capital to Linan (today's Hangzhou) in 1127, aiming at baking top-quality porcelain to meet the needs of the imperial family and bureaucrat stratum. The porcelain wares became the best favourites in the imperial court because of their simple and unsophisticated modeling, sleek and implicit glaze, consummate patterns and well-versed craftsmanship.
